Environmental Consulting Director

Analytical Environmental Services (AES) is seeking a director-level executive to help manage and grow our successful business. AES conducts environmental impact analysis and prepares related environmental documentation to assist government agencies and private companies comply with complex federal, state and local environmental regulations. Our services include project management, preparation of CEQA and NEPA documentation, acquisition of environmental permits, and conducting water quality, air quality, biological, hazardous materials, and cultural resources technical studies. AES has projects and clients in the western states as well as nation-wide.

AES is seeking a demonstrated leader with previous consulting firm and business management experience with a strong commitment to providing exceptional client service. The position involves all aspects of office and project management, including staff and client interaction, business development, P&L responsibility, technical proficiency in one or more environmental area, and overall quality assurance.

The successful candidate will ideally have 10 to 25 years of relevant experience, including excellent written and verbal communication skills, proven business development and management ability, and a passion for their profession. The position requires a degree in environmental studies, engineering, biology, law, or related field, and practical knowledge of NEPA and other environmental regulations. An advanced degree is preferred. An understanding and working knowledge of Native American issues, water rights, and/or land use regulations would also be beneficial. Must possess a proven history of meeting project deadlines and budgets.

Major focus areas for the person in this role include:

  • Manage and mentor staff, helping them to set and meet personal and professional goals.
  • Responsible for business development, proposal preparation, estimating work, and maintaining and developing key client relationships.
  • Oversee, coordinate, plan and administer large to medium sizes environmental studies, including EISs, EIRs, and related documents.
  • Assemble and administer teams of company staff and subconsultants to assist clients with all aspects of project definition, strategy, approval, and implementation.
  • Familiarity with NEPA and permitting requirements of federal agencies, especially Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. EPA, and Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Compose letters, technical memorandums, and technical reports. Edit reports, correspondence, permit applications, and business development materials.
  • Ensure the integrity and completeness of all documents with strong QA/QC procedures.
  • Play a key role in project delivery, including technical oversight, budget control, and project management such that business and financial targets are met.
