January 2007. Construction of the City of Hollister’s new membrane bioreactor wastewater treatment plant is rapidly underway. The City certified the EIR for the project and awarded the construction contract in October 2006. Prepared by AES, the EIR analyzed the construction of the 5.0 million gallon per day wastewater treatment plant as well as the recycling of treated effluent. Wastewater produced by the facility will meet California Department of Health Standards for recycled water use in agricultural and urban irrigation. The new plant will replace the City’s existing domestic wastewater treatment plant located near Highway 156 in San Benito County.
