City of Richmond Approves Point Molate EIR

The City of Richmond voted today to approved the EIR for the Point Molate Mixed-Use Tribal Destination Resort and Casino Project. The EIR was prepared by AES under the direction of the City of Richmond, pursuant to a Memorandum of Understanding between the City and the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. As part of the project, portions of the 413 acre site would be taken into federal trust for use by the Guidiville Band of Pomo Indians for the resort. The site, located near the eastern terminus of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, was formerly used by the U.S. Navy as a fuel depot. The Proposed Project includes two hotels totaling 1,075 rooms, 170,000 square feet of business, conference and entertainment facilities, an approximately 240,000 square foot casino, 54 cottages and casitas, a 300,000 square foot retail shopping center, public plazas, pedestrian/bicycle trails, shoreline parks, a Tribal park, Tribal government offices and cultural facilities, restoration of 34 of the historic buildings located on-site, and transportation facilities including a public ferry terminal which would be funded by the Project and open to the public.
