AES Accredited Under New Cap-and-Trade Regulations
January 17, 2013

AES has been accredited by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to act as a verification body (#H2-13-013) for the purpose of verifying offset emissions credits under California’s Cap-and-Trade Regulations initiated under Assembly Bill 32, the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32). CARB offset emissions credits are greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions or GHG removal enhancements that meet one of four Compliance Offset Protocols (U.S. Forests Projects, Urban Forest Projects, Livestock Projects, and Ozone Depleting Substances Projects) and may be used by a regulated emitting entity to meet up to eight percent of its required emissions reduction obligation established under the Cap-and-Trade Program. Regulations requires that offset credits must be verified by a CARB accredited verification body before they can be used for compliance under the Cap-and-Trade Program. AES’s lead offset verifiers have completed CARB training and passed examinations exhibiting competency in ARB’s Compliance Offset Program and Protocols.
