1400-acre Housing Project in Santa Barbara County Approved
January 24, 2017

The Chumash Tribal Housing Project, located on a 2.2-square mile property near Santa Ynez, CA, has been approved by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs. The property will be used for 143 homes and associated facilities. The approval and acquisition of the property by the United States in trust for the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians is the culmination of many years of environmental studies and regulatory compliance work. Analytical Environmental Services (AES) prepared the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Assessment for the project. Potential impacts related to water resources, biological resources, cultural resources, traffic, and land use compatibility were assessed and mitigated where necessary as part of the NEPA review process.
