Boardman Canal Pipeline Relocation at Pacific Avenue Project
December 1, 2008

Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration (December 2008)

The Boardman Canal Pipeline Relocation at Pacific Avenue Project addresses the potential failure of a section of the Boardman Canal Canal under Pacific Heights apartment complex in Auburn, California.  The Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) operates the Boardman Canal, which is a key component of PCWA’s raw (untreated) water transmission system. The proposed pipeline alignment consists of approximately 800 linear feet of 54-inch pipeline in Meadowlark Court, Pacific Avenue and Sacramento Street that would connect upstream of where the existing Boardman Canal flows under Pacific Avenue near the Pacific Heights apartment complex. The project also includes approximately 300 linear feet of 16-inch and 12-inch blowoff piping in Railhead Park (United States Bureau of Reclamation property, operated by the Auburn Recreation District). Approximately 200 feet of the open channel portions of the Boardman Canal would be filled and sloped to drain surface runoff to existing storm drainage and approximately 500 feet of underground pipeline located under the Pacific Heights apartment complex and the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Sacramento Street would be filled.
